Children's behavior reflect their internal world. Sometimes children struggle to manage emotions and are not always able to directly express them, so they come out in their behaviors. These behaviors can range from very minor to severe and may include the following:
Significant life events, for example such as divorce, a loss of someone close, parental substance use, illness or learning problems can have an impact on children's behaviors.
If your child is displaying any behavioral or emotional problems or has experienced a significant life event, therapy can definitely help.
The frequency of counseling sessions with Grace Rooted Kids' Mental Health Center will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some clients may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may attend bi-weekly or monthly.
No matter the specific words parents use, it's essential to be honest, open, and empathetic. Parents of young children might say something like, "I understand that things have been tough for you lately, and you've been dealing with feelings of sadness, anger, worry, or fear. I know it can be difficult to talk about these emotions, and sometimes we may feel a bit confused. So, we’ll be meeting with someone who helps kids understand their feelings and feel better. You’ll have a chance to explore her toys, play, and discuss anything that’s bothering you. She will support you, and it will be a safe space for you to express yourself."
